CreARTive Sunday 03/30/08: Spin Art
What is Spin Art?
Spin Art is the creating of abstract paintings using a specially designed Spin Art Machine.
When my son Matt was small, I was able to purchase the Spin Art Machine from a neighborhood toy store and we would produce our own works of art all the time !
You can find Spin Art at craft fairs, or at kid’s birthday parties where the equipment is usually rented.
A piece of A4 artist board is placed on the platform inside the Spin Art Machine (a huge spinning centrifuge).
The lid is locked down by the attendant and the machine is turned on.
As the paper is spinning inside the machine, the artist can use the range of brilliantly coloured quick-drying non-toxic acrylic paints to produce their work of art.
By using different techniques of applying the paint you can achieve vastly different designs.
Different effects can be achieved by dripping, squirting or pouring the paint onto the board. Colours will blend and your abstract will be unique.
The attendant can stop the machine so you can view you artwork and restart the machine if you wish to add more colour. When the artist is happy with the abstract the attendant will remove the artwork and glitter may be added if you wish.
An attachment for Frisbee’s is also available.
They can also turned into Retro Clocks by drilling the centre and inserting a clock.
They also make great presents !
Very interesting. I have never seen anything like that! Congratulations for your creativity.

I remember these and we got one at some point, yes, lots of fun. If it was messy, I’ve repressed it. It’s almost like, well, flat pottery on a wheel. Um, a little far-fetched, maybe, 🙂

I was amazing when I found a place to buy it. I think it ran on “AA” batteries.

OMG,nemo what a mess it must’ve made, but that’s a price you pay for making art, LOL!!! but the kid’s machines did have a cover on top, so at least it minimized the mess.
