Anoushka Shankar, The Concert for George Harrison
Anoushka Shankar, the twenty one year old daughter of sitar virtuoso, Ravi Shankar, has been playing music since she was a small child. She is considered a true prodigy, accomplished on the piano as well as the sitar.
Anoushka was born in London and grew up in California. She began studying the sitar with her father and the great masters of Indian music who preceeded her.
Since 1995, she performed both with Ravi Shankar and as a solo artist and has received five-star reviews throughout the western world.
When she was 17 years old in 1998, she was honored by the Parliament in London, which gave her a House of Commons Shield. She is the only woman, and the youngest person to receive this recognition as a musician.
The late George Harrison was greatly influenced by the music of Ravi Shankar and felt that Anoushka also has her father’s wonderful qualities.
Anoushka’s music, like her father’s, is deeply rooted in Buddhism, and has been described as if she is lost in conversations with God.

I wish I could have been there to hear her play.
