For Poetry Wednesday this week, I am posting two poems by Maya Angelou. The first one, Still I Rise, is from her book, Phenomenal Woman, and the other is called, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings from a book by the same  name. Art Sunday 08/17/08: “Magic” in Art

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 28, 2012 by LauraNovember 28, 2012

Sea Change 1996 Sculpture by George Cutts Stainless steel The Storm King Art Center, New York The theme that Lina chose for Art Sunday this weekend is “Magic”.  For me, what comes to mind was a sculpture that I saw when I visited The Storm King Art Center in New York. It is a moving sculpture developed by George Cutts. The sculpture gives a “magical” feel of being under the sea as the stainless steel rods “sway” by the waves. It is best to view the … Continue reading →

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 28, 2012 by LauraNovember 28, 2012

Here I am standing at the base of a some ancient tree in a park known as Greynolds Park in Miami. The root system of this tree was so amazing to look at, so I enlarged the picture below because there was so much detail.  Would anyone know about how old this tree could possibly be ?  There are many nature trails available, but wear good walking shoes (not like the kind I’m wearing in the photo) because there are lizards and many other critters that cross the road … Continue reading →

Poetry Wednesday 08/12/09: Summer in the South

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 28, 2012 by LauraNovember 28, 2012

Summer Charm by June Dudley Summer in the South (1903) by Paul Laurence Dunbar The oriole sings in the greening grove As if he were half-way waiting, The rosebuds peep from their hoods of green, Timid, and hesitating. The rain comes down in a torrent sweep And the nights smell warm and pinety, The garden thrives, but the tender shoots Are yellow-green and tiny. Then a flash of sun on a waiting hill, Streams laugh that erst were quiet, The sky smiles down with a … Continue reading →

September 11, 2001 – Do you have a story ?

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 28, 2012 by LauraNovember 28, 2012

Got a story about the World Trade Center ? Here’s a website where you can tell it. Due to heavy congestion, there might be delays connecting, so be patient.   By VERENA DOBNIK, Associated Press Writer Verena Dobnik, Associated Press Writer – 49 mins ago NEW YORK – A camera in Brooklyn points through a chain-link fence at black smoke pouring from one skyscraper, while a plane pierces another. Papers fly through the sky; some of them end up in the filmmakers’ hands. That evening — Sept. 11, … Continue reading →

Poetry Wednesday 10/28/09: Jack Kerouac’s San Francisco Scene

Jack Sheedy Jazz Band  Bert Pearl, Bill Dart, Jack Minger, Paul Miller, Pat Patton and Jack Sheedy. San Francisco Scene (The Beat Generation) By Jack Kerouac   Now it’s jazz, the place is roaring, all beautiful girls in there, one mad brunette at the bar drunk with her boys. One strange chick I remember from somewhere, wearing a simple skirt with pockets, her hands in there, short haircut, slouched, talking to everybody. Up and down the stairs they come. The bartenders are the regular band … Continue reading →
