Theater Thursday: Dinner With Friends

Laura's Blogs Posted on December 3, 2012 by LauraDecember 3, 2012

A happily married couple discover their friends are not as happy as they thought, and they begin to wonder how sound their own relationship can be, in this made-for-cable adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Donald Margulies. Gabe (Dennis Quaid) and Karen (Andie MacDowell) are a pair of wedded food writers who more than a decade ago introduced their close friends Tom (Greg Kinnear) and Beth (Toni Collette). Tom and Beth fell in love and got married, but one night as Gabe and Karen … Continue reading →

Cats Took Over My House By Sans Souci ©11/7/05 Cats took over my house! I never sleep; they tickle my feet. Cats took over my house! Cats took over my house! Paul McCartney will play in Israel

Laura's Blogs Posted on December 3, 2012 by LauraFebruary 13, 2017

I just read this about the “Cute Beatle”. Despite several threats by extremists, Paul McCartney has refused to cancel an upcoming concert in Israel. He will go ahead with a gig in honour of the country’s 60th anniversary. “I do what I think and I have many friends who support Israel,” McCartney told Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth this weekend. His comments come in response to a Sunday Express interview with the militant Islamic activist Omar Bakri Muhammad. “If he values his life Mr McCartney must … Continue reading →

The 40th Anniversary of the Woodstock Nation

Laura's Blogs Posted on December 3, 2012 by LauraDecember 21, 2012

The Woodstock Music and Art Fair was an event held at Max Yasgur’s 600 acre dairy farm in the rural town of Bethel, New York from August 15 to August 18, 1969. Bethel (Sullivan County) is 43 miles (69 km) southwest of the town of Woodstock, New York, which is in adjoining Ulster County. The festival exemplified the counterculture of the late 1960s – early 1970s and the “hippie era”. Thirty-two of the best-known musicians of the day appeared during the sometimes rainy weekend. Although attempts … Continue reading →

Waterford Wedgwood collapses

Laura's Blogs Posted on December 3, 2012 by LauraDecember 3, 2012

From Yahoo news: If you love antiques or collected Wedgwood pieces over the years like me, you’ll find the  following article heartbreaking: LONDON – Waterford Wedgwood PLC, the maker of classic china and crystal, filed for bankruptcy protection on Monday after attempts to restructure the struggling business or find a buyer failed. Four administrators from business advisory firm Deloitte were appointed to run the company’s businesses in Britain and Northern Ireland, while a Deloitte partner in the Irish Republic was appointed as receiver of Waterford … Continue reading →

Poetry Wednesday 07/16/08: If You Had Wings

Laura's Blogs Posted on December 3, 2012 by LauraDecember 3, 2012

Sponsored by Eastern Airlines, If You Had Wings was one of the few free attractions in the Magic Kingdom, located in Tomorrowland of Disney World.   It opened on June 5, 1972.  Guest boarded Omnimover cars that showed different destinations that Eastern flew to.   In the days when most rides required the expenditure of prepaid tickets, this attraction was complimentary. Little publicized and little known, waiting lines for this attraction (located across from Mission to Mars) were nonexistent or short even when the park was crowded. If … Continue reading →

Theater Thursday 07/24/08: Summer of ’42

Laura's Blogs Posted on December 3, 2012 by LauraDecember 29, 2012

Summer of ’42  is a 1971 American “coming-of-age” motion picture drama based on the memoirs of screenwriter Herman Raucher. It tells the story of Raucher as a boy, in his early teens on his 1942 summer vacation on Nantucket Island, off the coast of New England, who embarked on a one-sided romance with a woman, Dorothy, whose husband had gone off to fight in World War II. The film was directed by Robert Mulliagan, and starred Gary Grimes as Hermie, Jerry Houser as his best friend … Continue reading →

Laura's Blogs Posted on December 3, 2012 by LauraDecember 3, 2012

In honor of Loretta’s birthday, I am featuring some original photography of a trip I took to Scotland over 20 years ago. These are original photographs that I scanned from film. They are not digital, so they may not have the clarity that digital photographs have, but I hope you enjoy them. Happy Birthday, Loretta ! Loretta, I cannot remember the names of the castles in the photos below, but if you can, let me know below in the comments. Thanks !  ~ Laurita      … Continue reading →
