Healing Waterfall Meditation

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 14, 2012 by LauraNovember 14, 2012

Healing Waterfall Meditation This should last at least for 1/2 an hour. Sit comfortably as in a position that you would use to normally meditate…and replace your meditation with this one. Relax, and imagine you are a beautiful waterfall. [Give yourself a few moments for this] Now…repeat a few times in your mind…or ask your guide to do so for you…he/she just might. “The water flows in…..the water flows away… See yourself as the water flows into you, and see yourself as the water flows … Continue reading →

It played a major role in the evolution and development of the counterculture in the 1960s. Right: Bob Fass with Abbie Hoffman in the background on the left. WBAI was a radio station which was not known for its great continuous music, even though there were no commercials. Journey Into Amazing Caves

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 14, 2012 by LauraNovember 14, 2012

Journey into Amazing Caves was an IMAX movie released in 2001, and can now be purchased on DVD. Journey into Amazing Caves was a suspenseful expedition by a new breed of scientists who boldly explore the Earth’s last true frontier: caves so remote that exploring them is like visiting another planet. At the heart of Journey into Amazing Caves is the compelling story of two tenacious young women—a microbiologist and a cave rescue specialist—who set out to explore some of the world’s most unique and … Continue reading →

The Planets by Gustav Holst

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 13, 2012 by LauraNovember 17, 2012

I have never been interested in classical music. Most of it puts me to sleep. I find it boring even if the instruments sound beautiful. You could play it on the most sophisticated audio equipment known to man for me, but it just doesn’t do it for me. I could appreciate it, of course, but I could never really get into it. I don’t remember how I got a hold of a C/D called, The Planets by Gustav Holst. Maybe my sister, Sans Souci, gave … Continue reading →

Alfred Hitchcock’s Cure for Insomnia

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 13, 2012 by LauraNovember 13, 2012

I never realized that Alfred Hitchcock had this cure for insomnia that he never shared with the public before…   Alfred Hitchcock’s Cameo Appearances One of my favorite film directors growing up was Alfred Hitchcock. He was more commonly known as the “Master of Suspense.” He also had a weekly television series in the sixties. You could probably get all the weekly episodes on DVD now. I know it’s probably silly, but one the the things I liked about his movies was that he always … Continue reading →

The Race To Nowhere

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 1, 2012 by LauraNovember 13, 2012

If you have kids, you will not want to miss this video. RACE TO NOWHERE is a close-up look at the pressures on today’s students, offering an intimate view of lives packed with activities, leaving little room for down-time or family time. Parents today are expected to raise high-achieving children, who are good at everything: academics, sports, the arts, community-service. The film tackles the tragic side of our often achievement-obsessed culture, with interviews that explore the hidden world of over-burdened schedules, student suicide, academic cheating, … Continue reading →

The Benefits of Honey

Laura's Blogs Posted on October 6, 2012 by LauraNovember 6, 2012

I have always loved honey. I actually put it in my tea to replace sugar, but I didn’t realize it had so many health benefits. After surfing the web about it, here’s what I found:              Easily digested: Because sugar molecules in honey can convert into other sugars (e.g. fructose to glucose), honey is easily digested by the most sensitive stomachs, despite its high acid content. It helps kidneys and intestines to function better. Good source of antioxidants: It plays … Continue reading →

Little Mister gets a Christmas hat and scarf

Laura's Blogs Posted on October 6, 2012 by LauraNovember 6, 2012

What do you give a rabbit for Christmas ?  We thought maybe an extra large bushel of Timothy hay or an entire bag of Romaine lettuce. Then we found the perfect gift. A warm hand-made crocheted hat that even comes with a matching scarf and mittens, but he mostly loved the hat. They matched his eyes so beautifully ! We asked him if he could model them for us !        15 CommentsChronological   Reverse   Threaded deletereply sugarpiehuny wrote on Dec 9, ’08 I know he … Continue reading →

The Jewish Origin of the Vulcan Salute

Laura's Blogs Posted on October 6, 2012 by LauraDecember 2, 2012

The Jewish Origin of the Vulcan Salute by Rabbi Yonassan Gershom We come now to the most famous Jewish influence on Vulcan culture, the “live long and prosper” hand gesture. This “Vulcan salute, ” as it has come to be called, was invented on the set by Leonard Nimoy during the filming of the second-season opener, “Amok Time.” In this episode, Spock goes into something like a male estrus cycle, called pon farr in the Vulcan language. Comparing himself to a salmon swimming upstream to … Continue reading →
