The Little Rascals

Laura's Blogs Posted on October 3, 2012 by LauraNovember 13, 2012

One of my favorite shows growing up was The Little Rascals, although it was sometimes called, “Our Gang”. It was a series of American comedy short films about a bunch of neighborhood children and the adventures they had together. It was created by Hal Roach. It actually started out as a silent series in 1927. Roach changed distributors from Pathe to Metro Goldwyn Mayer and went to sound in 1929, and continued production until 1938, when he sold the series to MGM. MGM continued producing … Continue reading →

Interesting old ads

Laura's Blogs Posted on September 23, 2012 by LauraNovember 6, 2012

A friend of mine emailed me these advertising ads from the 30s. You might have seen these, but I’m posting them because I need a good laugh. If you do too, taking a look at these. I especially like the last one.

Organic food may be healthy, but the prices are too high

Laura's Blogs Posted on September 20, 2012 by LauraNovember 6, 2012

When I go food shopping, I read the labels of most of the stuff I buy. Like most people, I want to be healthy. I know organic food is a good way to go, but I wish it wasn’t so expensive. I cannot afford to buy organic food everytime I shop for food (I know a lot of people that cannot even afford to buy non-organic food). I usually go organic food shopping once a week. I mostly buy specialty items that I know that … Continue reading →

Relationships: An old friend emailed this to me

Laura's Blogs Posted on September 20, 2012 by LauraNovember 6, 2012

People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person.. When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the … Continue reading →

The 13th Zodiac Sign: Ophiuchus

Laura's Blogs Posted on September 20, 2012 by LauraNovember 6, 2012

I never really felt like a true Saggitarian, and this could be why. According to what I heard on the news today, I’m NOT a true Saggitarian. I know some people don’t really take astrology seriously, but I do find it interesting, especially when some of the more detailed characteristics of my sign, and friends and some family members acually do make sense. Your zodiac sign may not actually be your zodiac sign anymore. Astronomer Parke Kunkle says that due to changes in the Earth’s … Continue reading →

The History Channel: Cities of the Underworld

Laura's Blogs Posted on September 20, 2012 by LauraNovember 6, 2012

“Cities of the Underworld” is a DVD series which orignially ran on The History Channel that explores the archeology of the big cities of the world. It is hosted by Eric Geller. New York is my favorite episode, although most major cities have their own episode. Below there is a video about Hitler’s lost underground prisons. New York may be the City that Never Sleeps…but it’s not just The Big Apple’s streets that refuse to rest. Here, the underworld is a living, breathing tangle of … Continue reading →

Oh deer

Laura's Blogs Posted on September 20, 2012 by LauraNovember 6, 2012

As I was driving home from grocery shopping today this afternoon, I was on the last stretch of road before turning left. I was maybe an eighth of a mile left to go. Traffic was backed up as far as I could see on the opposite lane for some reason. I looked ahead to see what it could be, and I saw what I thought was an injured bird trying to fly. As I got a little closer, I thought I saw a black garbage … Continue reading →

My son is now a senior in high school and he’s been working very hard studying to take a second SAT college exam that will be coming up in October because he needs a higher score to try to get into the private colleges that he’s been looking at. He has a private tutor and also had some help after school to help him develop strategies for taking the test. The company that provides the private tutoring suggested that he should take a another practice … Continue reading →

CreARTive Sunday 03/16/08: Dichroic Glass

Laura's Blogs Posted on September 6, 2012 by LauraNovember 7, 2012

The amazing brilliance of Dichroic glass is achieved by vaporizing metallic oxide onto glass sheets in a controlled vacuum. Multiple layers of the treated glass create the dazzling colors. The cut and stacked pieces are fused in a kiln, often several times. Further annealing, grinding and firepolishing result in beautiful and unique jewelry.  Also, more layers provide more color depth. Here’s a piece that I got from my mother-in-law: Here’s a couple of pendants I got for my birthday from San Souci:   Dichroic glass jewelry … Continue reading →

The Commissioning of the USS New York

Laura's Blogs Posted on September 5, 2012 by LauraNovember 24, 2012

Left: The USS New York Original photo by Laurita A commissioning of a ship marks her entry into active Navy service, but The USS New York represents something extra special. It is made with seven and a half tons of steel from the Twin Towers that were bullt into the ship’s bow. The ship was built in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her motto, “Strength forged through sacrifice. Never forget,” reminds all of the terrorist attacks that killed so many innocent civilians and the heroic actions of the firefighter, police, and other first … Continue reading →
