How to make You Tube Videos start playing automatically on your page

Laura's Blogs Posted on December 2, 2012 by LauraDecember 2, 2012

Have you ever wondered how to get a You Tube Video to start to play automatically when someone comes to your page ? I have, and I could never understand why that is not an option when you go to You Tube to get a video for your blog. Well, I decided to do some research on that because I thought that should be such an easy thing to do. You have to actually change the embedded code after you do the copy and paste … Continue reading →

The Chinese Restaurant Syndrome

Laura's Blogs Posted on December 2, 2012 by LauraDecember 2, 2012

Has anyone ever had a physically bad reaction soon after going to a Chinese restaurant ? I did last night, but my friends were not as effected as I was. At about 6:30pm, I went out last night to a very well known Zagat rated Chinese restaurant in my area with two other couples and their kids. We all ordered an assortment of appetizers and entrees that we all shared. I remember the teenage daughter of one of my friends remarking later that she felt dizzy after … Continue reading →

On aging, longevity, and the meaning of life

Laura's Blogs Posted on December 1, 2012 by LauraDecember 1, 2012

Hi everyone, I’m back ! I’ve been on a week-long vacation with my family to sunny Florida to hang out, soak up some sun, and see my mom who is still doing very well. My mom, still living by herself, cleans her whole apartment, goes to her hair salon appointments, dental appointments, shops for summer outfits at the mall. Why is all this amazing ? Because she will be 91 this coming March. Even as she approaches 91, she continues to live as much of an independent life … Continue reading →

Looking For Work is a Career

Laura's Blogs Posted on December 1, 2012 by LauraDecember 1, 2012

It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it. Actually, millions are doing it. I’ve been doing it for a while now. Trying to return to a career 16 years after having a child is probably worse than what the college graduates are facing for the first time. Left: The IBM System 3 Model 10: The first mini computer which revolutionized the computer industry that I had the priviledge to work on in the 1970s. (It used punched cards!) Being a technology veteran in … Continue reading →

The First Mini-Computers in New York

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 28, 2012 by LauraNovember 28, 2012

My first job was in 1976. I started out as a keypunch operator. Keypunch operators worked on off-line, stand- alone machines. They were responsible preparing the data entry information that would be fed into the main computer system. The information was punched on small 90 column cards that could fit in the size of your hand. If the information needed to be put into a certain order, you had to manually run the cards through the card sorter. Sometimes the sorting process took a long … Continue reading →

Laurita’s New Year’s Resolutions For 2013

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 28, 2012 by LauraNovember 28, 2012

Laurita’s New Year’s Resolutions for 2013 This year, I resolve to: Always replace the gas nozzle before driving away from the pump. I will always “check for paper” when leaving the restroom. I will try to drive closer to the speed limit. I will always wear clean underwear, “just in case” when playing twister at a party. I will keep an extra safe distance when driving behind police cars. I will no longer park the BMW next to fire hydrants. So what’s your New Year’s … Continue reading →

All in the Family

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 28, 2012 by LauraNovember 28, 2012

One of my favorite television shows growing up was All in the Family. All in the Family is an acclaimed American comedy that was originally broadcast on the CBS  television network from January 12, 1971 to April 8, 1979. In September 1979, the show was revamped, and given a new title, Archie Bunker’s Place. This version of the sitcom lasted another four years, ending its run in 1983. Produced by Norman Lear and based on the British television series Til Death Us Do Part, the … Continue reading →

An excursion to Greynolds Park, Miami, Florida

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 28, 2012 by LauraNovember 28, 2012

Here I am standing at the base of a some ancient tree in a park known as Greynolds Park in Miami. The root system of this tree was so amazing to look at, so I enlarged the picture below because there was so much detail.  Would anyone know about how old this tree could possibly be ?  There are many nature trails available, but wear good walking shoes (not like the kind I’m wearing in the photo) because there are lizards and many other critters that cross the road … Continue reading →
