Lenny Bruce

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 15, 2012 by LauraNovember 15, 2012

I wonder if anyone out there remembers Lenny Bruce. I’d like to know what people thought of him. I was sort of young when he was around and I understand he caused quite a lot of controversy. I remember listening to a tape of a couple of his routines. I think they must have considered him to be the first “shock” comedian. He made Howard Stern look serious. His biography according to Wikpedia: Lenny Bruce (October 13,1925 – August 3, 1966) – born Leonard Alfred Schneider, was a controversial American … Continue reading →

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 14, 2012 by LauraNovember 14, 2012

“Where is Everybody?” is the first episode of the American television anthology series The Twilight Zone. The place is here, the time is now, and the journey into the shadows that we’re about to watch could be our journey. A man, Mike Ferris, finds himself alone in a strange town. He is dressed in an Air Force jumpsuit, but he does not remember who he is or how he got there. The town seems deserted, but everywhere the man goes, he seems to almost find … Continue reading →

On Men and Toilet Paper

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 14, 2012 by LauraNovember 14, 2012

I guess this is one of those blogs where I’ve been taking life too seriously again lately, but what is it about men and toilet paper? Why is it that men don’t seem to want to remember how to change the toilet paper when it runs out? I just don’t get it. Do they think that changing a toilet paper roll is exclusively a woman’s job? My husband will sometimes leave the new roll unopened on the floor, while the current one is almost gone. … Continue reading →

September 11, 2001: What’s your story?

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 14, 2012 by LauraNovember 14, 2012

Got a story about the World Trade Center ? Here’s a website where you can tell it. Due to heavy congestion, there might be delays connecting, so be patient.   By VERENA DOBNIK, Associated Press Writer Verena Dobnik, Associated Press Writer NEW YORK – A camera in Brooklyn points through a chain-link fence at black smoke pouring from one skyscraper, while a plane pierces another. Papers fly through the sky; some of them end up in the filmmakers’ hands. That evening — Sept. 11, 2001 — … Continue reading →

Natalie Portman stands up against anti-Semitism

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 14, 2012 by LauraNovember 14, 2012

It’s amazing that anti-Semitism still exists even as subtle stereotyped remarks whether or not they are said under the influence of alcohol. I’m sick of people using alcohol as an excuse to say what they really think, or use the 1st amendment to get away with it. I hope Dior files for Chapter 11 as a result of the stupid cracks made by John Galliano. Article: Natalie Portman, who has an endorsement contract with Dior for its Miss Dior Cherie fragrance, has strongly condemned its … Continue reading →

What’s with Jewish comedy ?

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 14, 2012 by LauraNovember 14, 2012

Here’s an interesting article I read recently: What’s with Jewish comedy? from the San Diego Jewish Journal By Jeff Berkwits Comedy may be the Jews’ greatest gift to America. The twentieth century is littered with the names of great Jewish comedians: George Burns, the Marx Brothers, Lenny Bruce, Mel Brooks, Woody Allen. But after the astounding success of Jerry Seinfeld, where does Jewish comedy go from here? Earlier this summer, stand-up comedian, Max Alexander, flew back from a week long comedy tour of Israel, and … Continue reading →

Early Video of Jim Morrison?

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 14, 2012 by LauraNovember 14, 2012

This video is an amazing find. A young college bound Jim Morrison is seen in a public relations Florida State University film. This was long before there was any concept of the legendary figure he would become with The Doors. Jim Morrison appears in two parts of this film and his voice seems to be over-dubbed with someone else’s in the first part. However, the second part is unmistakably his voice (at least I think so). The film was taken either in late 1963 or … Continue reading →

Cool Quotes by Albert Einstein

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 14, 2012 by LauraNovember 14, 2012

“Before God we are all equally wise – and equally foolish.” “Do not worry about your difficulties in Mathematics. I can assure you mine are still greater.” “Gravitation cannot be held responsible for people falling in love. How on earth can you explain in terms of chemistry and physics so important a biological phenomenon as first love? Put your hand on a stove for a minute and it seems like an hour. Sit with that special girl for an hour and it seems like a … Continue reading →
