Poetry: In Memoriam A. H. H.

Laura's Blogs Posted on May 4, 2015 by LauraJanuary 27, 2022

In Memoriam A. H. H. OBIIT MDCCCXXXIII: 27 By Alfred, Lord Tennyson I envy not in any moods… The captive void of noble rage, The linnet born within the cage, That never knew the summer woods: I envy not the beast that takes His license in the field of time, Unfetter’d by the sense of crime, To whom a conscience never wakes; Nor, what may count itself as blest, The heart that never plighted troth But stagnates in the weeds of sloth; Nor any want-begotten … Continue reading →

Island by Renaissance

Laura's Blogs Posted on March 12, 2015 by LauraApril 5, 2023

Island By Renaissance There is an island Where it should never be Surrounded by suburban sea And through the tired and hopeless waves To where it’s free I want to be there For the rest of my time There on the island The sun is always bright The moon sends the darkness away in the night I know that it’s waiting I know there’s a place ready for me I want to be there For the rest of my time Warm sounds of windsongs Come … Continue reading →

Poetry: The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost

Laura's Blogs Posted on October 1, 2014 by LauraApril 15, 2016

The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay … Continue reading →

Poetry: There is a Pleasure in the Pathless Woods

Laura's Blogs Posted on September 23, 2014 by LauraSeptember 23, 2014

There is a Pleasure in the Pathless Woods by Lord Byron There is a pleasure in the pathless woods; There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more, From these our interviews, in which I steal From all I may be, or have been before, To mingle with the Universe, and feel What I can ne’er express, yet cannot all conceal.   … Continue reading →

Poetry: Warning by Jenny Joseph

Laura's Blogs Posted on June 11, 2013 by LauraSeptember 6, 2014

Warning by Jenny Joseph When I am an old woman I shall wear purple With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me. And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter. I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tired And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells And run my stick along the public railings And make up for the sobriety of my youth. I shall … Continue reading →

Ray Manzarek

Laura's Blogs Posted on May 21, 2013 by LauraNovember 15, 2013

I’ll really miss Ray Manzarek, a founding member of The Doors whose versatile and often haunting keyboards complimented Jim Morrison’s gloomy vocals, helped set the mood for some of rock’s most enduring songs. I had no idea he had been ill, although the more recent pictures of him did not seem to indicate that he was aging all that well. Manzarek died Monday in Rosenheim, Germany, surrounded by his family. The Doors have sold more than 100 million records and songs such as “Light My … Continue reading →

What Happened To The Honeybees?

Laura's Blogs Posted on May 2, 2013 by LauraMay 2, 2013

I just read this great article on the disappearance of the honeybees: A new federal report blames a combination of problems for a mysterious and dramatic disappearance of U.S. honeybees since 2006. The intertwined factors cited include a parasitic mite, multiple viruses, bacteria, poor nutrition, genetics, habitat loss and pesticides. The multiple causes make it harder to do something about what’s called colony collapse disorder, experts say. The disorder has caused as much as one-third of the nation’s bees to just disappear each winter since … Continue reading →

Did You Know That Google Might Be Shutting Down Feedburner?

Laura's Blogs Posted on April 25, 2013 by LauraApril 25, 2013

Although the news has been flying along under the radar for the past few months, it has become clear that Google is beginning to phase out FeedBurner, a popular feed management service used by a slew of individuals and businesses alike. And orchestras are no exception; so if this is news to you, don’t wait for the service to go dark before you start making migration plans! Sue, let me know if you got this. I’m trying out a very popular plugin that I may … Continue reading →
