Poetry Wednesday: If Dogs Run Free

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 27, 2012 by LauraJune 15, 2015

If Dogs Run Free by Bob Dylan If dogs run free, then why not we Across the swooping plain ? My ears hear a symphony Of two mules, trains and rain The best is always yet to come That’s what they explain to me Just do your thing, you’ll be king If dogs run free. If dogs run free, why not me Across the swamp of time ? My mind weaves a symphony And tapestry of rhyme Oh, winds which rush my … Continue reading →

Poetry Wednesday: Found a Poem

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 27, 2012 by LauraNovember 27, 2012

Here is a poem I found while we were having a picnic at this table near Bear Moundtain, N.Y. The words were carved into the table, but it was very ledgable. The author and title of the poem is unknown. Untitled   clouds in a sky clear enough to allow them their form for miles a heavenly plain I recognized soon after the eyes of my mind became open. Still they permit me to see, and I admit their irrefutablility.

Poetry Wednesday: The Lady of Shalott

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 27, 2012 by LauraNovember 27, 2012

The Lady of Shalott, 1888 John William Waterhouse Oil on canvas This painting is based on: The Lady of Shalott by Alfred Lord Tennyson. It illustrates the lines: And down the river’s dim expanse Like some bold seer in a trance, Seeing all his own mischance – With a glassy countenance Did she look to Camelot. And at the closing of the day She loosed the chain, and down she lay; The broad stream bore her far away, The Lady of Shalott.

Poetry Wednesday 05/13/09: It’s The Journey That’s Important

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 27, 2012 by LauraDecember 27, 2012

It’s The Journey That’s Important… By John McLeod   Life, sometimes so wearying Is worth its weight in gold The experience of traveling Lends a wisdom that is old Beyond our ‘living memory’ A softly spoken prayer: “It’s the journey that’s important, Not the getting there!” Ins and outs and ups and downs Life’s road meanders aimlessly? Or so it seems, but somehow Leads us where we need to be, And being simply human We oft question and compare…. “Is the journey so important Or … Continue reading →

Poetry: Harlem Night Club by Langston Hughes

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 27, 2012 by LauraDecember 25, 2012

Harlem Night Club Sleek black boys in a cabaret. Jazz-band, jazz-band,– Play, plAY, PLAY! Tomorrow….who knows? Dance today! White girls’ eyes Call gay black boys. Black boys’ lips Grin jungle joys. Dark brown girls In blond men’s arms. Jazz-band, jazz-band,– Sing Eve’s charm! White ones, brown ones, What do you know About tomorrow Where all paths go? Jazz-boys, jazz-boys,– Play, plAY, PLAY! Tomorrow….is darkness. Joy today! Epilogue I, too, sing America. I am the darker brother. They send me to eat in the kitchen When … Continue reading →

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 27, 2012 by LauraDecember 27, 2012

Jewish Haikus Five thousand years a wandering people—–then we found the cabanas. Lacking fins or tail The gefilte fish swims with Great difficulty. Beyond Valium, Peace is knowing one’s child Is an internist. On Passover we Opened the door for Elijah Now our cat is gone. After the warm rain The sweet smell of camellias Did you wipe your feet? Today I am a man. Tomorrow I will return To the seventh grade. Testing the warm milk On her wrist, she sighs softly. But her … Continue reading →

Poetry Wednesday: Bagel Shop Jazz

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 27, 2012 by LauraDecember 24, 2012

Bagel Shop Jazz By Bob Kaufman Shadow people, projected on coffee-shop walls. Memory formed echoes of a generation past Beating into now. Nightfall creatures, eating each other Over a noisy cup of coffee. Mulberry-eyed girls in black stockings, Smelling vaguely of mint jelly and last night’s bongo drummer, Making profound remarks on the shapes of navels, Wondering how the short Sunset week Became the long Grant Avenue night, Love tinted, beat angels, Doomed to see their coffee dreams Crushed on the floors of time, As … Continue reading →

Poetry Wednesday 12/10/09: The Eternal Moment

Laura's Blogs Posted on November 27, 2012 by LauraNovember 27, 2012

The Eternal Moment by Laurita Our lives are either looking backwards, Or  looking forwards, Where’s the moment? We can’t change the past, And we don’t know what the future will be, All we have is now. Are we humans having a spritual experience? Are we spirits having a human experience? We are just recycled souls, Spiraling upwards, Towards inner bliss.   I wrote this short poem, The Eternal Moment, in honor of my 55th birthday for December 10, 2009. This is the only poem I have ever … Continue reading →
