CreARTive Sunday 04/20/08: Flower and Candle Centerpieces
Materials
1. candles
2. candle bases (see right)
2. floral foam (see right)
3. dish or container
4. waterproof floral tape
4. your chosen flowers and greens
Directions
1. Gently soak floral foam in fresh clean water. Never plunge the foam into the water. Gently place it in the water and let it hydrate on it’s own.
2. Cut it into flat sheets, fitting it snuggly into your chosen container. Trim the edges to create a rounded shape.
3. Tape carefully to the container to secure the foam to the container.
4. Take well hydrated flowers and create a flat pave style arrangement in the foam, takeing care to cover all exposed areas of the foam and all reflective areas of the tape. Strive for visual color and weight balance, and an even appearance throughtout. (Pave’ is a jewlery term that places the elements very tight together. In flower arranging, this style enables us to use some of the most unusual textural materials avaiable at that time- Seeded Eucalyptus, Seedum, Flowering Kale, Fresh Artichokes)
5. Once your arrangement is finished, place the candles in their disignated locations.
6. If you do not have the candle bases (you can get them at a local craft store), take toothpicks and use the tape to wrap tightly to the base of the candles. Make sure you leave enough ends of the toothpicks sticking out-this will serve to secure the base of the candle into the foam. Then place the candles down into the foam. The toothpicks should give it enough of a hold.

Thanks for the comment, stillybee ! Wow, it must be fun working in a floral shop. Do you think this is the easiest way to make these ? I thought this would be good because there’s not a lot of materials you need to do this.

I have always appreciated flower arrangements and yours with candles are very ellegant, indeed! Thanks for giving instructions but I am not sure I am skilled enough to make something alike. I am more experienced with Ikebana.

That’s a very nice and easy idea. Just need the materials and a little time to have fun and create.
