INVITATION TO A JAZZ PARTY
MAKO HUGHES
Miles Davis Sextet with Cannonball Adderley,John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Paul Chambers & Jimmy Cobb.
Welcome to Dunkirk Street’s Birthday Jazz Party!
I’ll be your hostess until the party’s over, which could be days or even weeks!
Everyone’s invited, so feel free to drop in.
Formerly known on Multiply as Instrumental Pavilion (Fred), he was gone for a brief period of time, but then changed his name to Parsons Boulevard. Now he’s Dunkirk Street and has returned to due to popular demand!
.
Fred’s birthday is on December 13th, so let’s all raise our glasses and celebrate!
From his website on Multiply in case you’re not familiar with this remarkable person:

“I was speaking with my father (R.I.P.) recently and realized yet again that my parents had a big influence on me and my musical taste. When we were kids we had our own music that was popular at the time…Motown and other pop music everyone liked before they labeled it “crossover”.
.
My father was a big jazz fan and had the music playing at home quite a bit. When I was a young kid in Brooklyn and too young to hit the clubs, he used to tell me about all the jazz cats he knew personally over the years: Charlie Parker, Sonny Stitt, Sonny Rollins, Gene Ammons, Lester Young, Candido, etc. I was totally fascinated by this since my only contact with people like that were on album covers. Once 8-tracks became all the rage, it was jazz music up and down Interstate 95 on those summer road trips many years ago. After a time, this stuff does grow on you in one way or another.
.
Easy listening and classical music tended to be my mother’s listening choices. Years ago there were plenty of easy listening and “beautiful music” stations on AM and FM that you could tune into at anytime. WPAT “gentle 93” was very popular in the NY metro area for years where one could fall asleep to the likes of Percy Faith, Mantovani and other staples of that genre.
Saturday was big contemporary jazz radio day for my father (the old WRVR station on 106.7 FM) while we did yard work. Sundays my parents switched gears and had classical playing all day courtesy of WQXR FM (who used to have a wonderful classical program called “Montage Collage”). So I thought after so many years of being musically programmed at home, I thought why not do the same thing here, which is why ‘symphonique’ is on Sunday and more contemporary stuff is part of my ‘smoothscape’ Saturday.
.
Hope some of you are still enjoying the music and other posts. More cool stuff to come once we hit the holiday season. Take care.”

We will test the compatiability of your blog with embeding music by providing a little Duke Ellington “Sugar Rum Cherry”
And since it didn’t make it .. the embed code option must not exist.
