“How High The Moon” by Ella Fitzgerald
Hello, and welcome to Poetry Thursday 11/05/15. You can sign in today and take the tour !
The Poetry Thursday lounge will be open Monday-Friday this week to give you more time to post your poetry and take the tour.
My sister, Susan, will be celebrating her birthday on Thursday, November 5th, so everyone is welcome to come by to toast our charming Poetry Thursday “Poetess Hostess with the Mostess”!
Feel free to leave a favorite poem of yours in the comments section below.
In honor of my sister’s birthday, I’m going to start things off this week with the lyrics of an oldie but goodie song by Irving Berlin, called “Sisters, Sisters”. I know it’s a bit corny, but we used to sing the first couple of lines together.
Sisters, Sisters
By Irving Berlin
sisters, sisters
There were never such devoted sisters,
Never had to have a chaperone, No sir,
I’m there to keep my eye on her
Caring, sharing
Every little thing that we are wearing
When a certain gentleman arrived from Rome
She wore the dress, and I stayed home
All kinds of weather we stick together
The same in the rain and sun
Two different faces, but in tight places
We think and we act as one
Those who’ve seen us
Know that not a thing could come between us
Many men have tried to split us up, but no one can
Lord help the mister who comes
between me and my sister
And Lord help the sister, who
comes between me and my man
Lyrics: Sisters, Sisters, Irving Berlin [end]

How High The Moon
by Nancy Hamilton and music by Morgan Lewis.
Somewhere there’s music
How faint the tune
Somewhere there’s heaven
How high the moon
There is no moon above
When love is far away too
Till it comes true
That you love me as I love you
Somewhere there’s heaven
It’s where you are
Somewhere there’s music
How near, how far
The darkest night would shine
If you would come to me soon
Until you will, how still my heart
How high the moon
Somewhere there’s music
How faint the tune
Somewhere there’s heaven
How high the moon
The darkest night would shine
If you would come to me soon
Until you will, how still my heart
How high the moon
The bar is open !
Anybody hungry ?
Ok, let’s roll out the cake !!!
Sue, don’t forget to make a wish and blow out the candles !
Mylanta’s great for indigestion !
I think I’ve had too much of Mike’s Hard Lemonade again !
I think I’d better quit while I’m ahead,
so let’s start the tour !
