Cats Took Over My House
By Sans Souci
©11/7/05
Cats took over my house!
I never sleep;
they tickle my feet.
Cats took over my house!
Cats took over my house!
The couch I mourn;
the leather is torn
Cats took over my house!
Cats took over my house!
They run and they zoom
by the light of the moon.
Cats took over my house!
Cats took over my house!
There’s never a day
they don’t want to play.
Cats took over my house!
Cats took over my house!
There’s nary a mouse
just my fur-covered spouse.
Cats took over my house!
Cats took over my house!
There’s 9-Lives, always,
and Friskies Buffets
Cats took over my house!
Cats took over my house!
They rub on my leg;
for turkey they beg
Cats took over my house!
Cats took over my house!
I cry and I blink
when their box starts to stink.
Cats took over my house!
Cats took over my house!
They knock over the clocks
while tossing my socks.
Cats took over my house!
Cats took over my house!
They eat the plants
and go into a trance.
Cats took over my house!
Cats took over my house!
They twitch and they scheme;
must be having a dream
Cats took over my house!
Cats took over my house!
I say, “Nevermore!”
But they know I adore
them– cats took over my house!
Well folks, she finally did it ! Sans Souci is finally on her way to becoming a published poet!
Hello, and welcome back again to Poetry Wednesday 05/06/09.
The Poetry Wednesday Lounge will be open all week in honor of this great occasion, so you can sign in today and take the tour all week.
Before we get started, please make sure that your post has a link to get back to this page to make it easier to take the tour:
1) Copy and paste the following link that I have provided for you from this page to somewhere on your poetry post.

About the author
The poem I chose for this week’s sign in page, “Cats Took Over My House”, is part of my sister’s upcoming collection of published poetry entitled, “The Cerebral Jukebox”. Even though I know that this poem does not represent her entirely as a poet, I chose it because of its humor which I feel we all need from time to time.
I think my sister’s poetry does not need the kind of detailed introduction that I have done with other poets that I’ve presented for Poetry Wednesday because everyone here is already so familiar with her work, but I will say, that she is probably one of the finest modern poets around today.
I myself am not a writer, and I don’t claim to be. I do not pretend to possess that talent. However, maybe my strength comes in where I can pick out a writer that strikes a chord in myself and perhaps in others.
No, I’m no writer, but I know talent when I see it. Maybe that’s MY talent. I’ve seen how my sister’s work has reached out to others, whether it’s from her Breast Cancer Series; her 9/11 Series; or her Couples Series. From encountering anti-semitism as a child, to losing her first husband at a young age, her words will capture you, and become part of your soul.
Growing up with her, she has put many of my childhood memories into words in a way that I know that I never could.
I know how much her work has reached out to you, and so I am presenting her as the featured poet this week for Poetry Wednesday.
~ Laurita

How cool that you and your sister are so close. I smiled to myself as I read about cats taking over the house. I have 3 cats, and it sounds just like them lol.

Thrilled to be among the lucky readers of Sans Souci,the poetess…this is very exciting indeed. My house is ruled by a tabby cat and I sit by daily and laugh at the dynamics of this magical creature with much adoration. Thank you for such a wonderful posting Laurita…you always welcome us with such graciousness,my friend!
