Poetry Wednesday 11/28/2012: It’s The Journey That’s Important
It’s The Journey That’s Important…
By John McLeod
Life, sometimes so wearying
Is worth its weight in gold
The experience of traveling
Lends a wisdom that is old
Beyond our ‘living memory’
A softly spoken prayer:
“It’s the journey that’s important,
Not the getting there!”
Ins and outs and ups and downs
Life’s road meanders aimlessly?
Or so it seems, but somehow
Leads us where we need to be,
And being simply human
We oft question and compare….
“Is the journey so important
Or the getting there?”
And thus it’s always been
That question pondered down the ages
By simple men with simple ways
To wise and ancient sages….
How sweet then, quietly knowing
Reaching destination fair:
“It’s the journey that’s important,
Not the getting there!”

About the author
John Mcleod, disabled since childhood, began writing poetry to help him cope with the difficulties of his situation. He believes that words can be a powerful healing tool if used with loving intention, to uplift, encourage and inspire. His poems are wrought from his own experience and were published in the hope that they would help others.
To quote John, “Life, though, is full of compensations and I have been well blessed throughout my ‘Life Journey’ with good friends met and made along the way. Life is a kind of swings and roundabouts situation; if you can’t kick a football you turn to other pursuits.”
John lived in a small fishing town near Edinburgh, Scotland with his very loving family, his great-niece and three great-nephews, who brought “their own special magic”. He was retired after a career in Banking and had intended to write his autobiography.
John wrote beautiful poetry which makes you stop and think. He has published two poetry books, “Peace..be ever yours” and “Quiet…flows the love”.
John passed away August 2006.
Words of Wisdom from – John McLeod,
“I believe that nothing in life is unimportant…every moment can be a beginning.”
–John McLeod, from the poem, “I Believe”
I Believe . . .
By John McLeod
I believe that nothing in life is unimportant
Every moment can be a beginning
And a time for decision,
Taken against the constant background of one’s faith
Each word and gesture – whether it comes from our
Strength or our weakness
May change the subsequent course of our life
And the lives of those around us.
“And which will you choose? For life is choice…”
