Poetry Wednesday 12/10/09: The Eternal Moment
The Eternal Moment
by Laurita
Our lives are either looking backwards,
Or looking forwards,
Where’s the moment?
We can’t change the past,
And we don’t know what the future will be,
All we have is now.
Are we humans having a spritual experience?
Are we spirits having a human experience?
We are just recycled souls,
Spiraling upwards,
Towards inner bliss.
I wrote this short poem, The Eternal Moment, in honor of my 55th birthday for December 10, 2009. This is the only poem I have ever written, but I feel it sums up my feelings about growing older. I tend to look at life on a more philosophical and mystical standpoint. I found that when I look at life this way, I don’t have any fear of death because the moment of now goes on forever. Hopefully, we are a bit wiser as we age, and I find that there is a certain peace that comes with aging.
And here we are in space. We are above and beyond…

Happy Birthday, Laurita! I too am reminded of my deepest thoughts and feelings about existence as I grow older – hopefully a bit wiser – each year of accumulated knowledge and understanding. To me that’s the beauty of aging. The physical continues to disappoint each year. But the clarity is wonderful! HUGS

Perfect little poem for a person putting years and experience behing them. Always stay in the now, everything else will take care of itself. Happy Birthday Friend oh and fellow Sagg.

You must keep on writing, Laurita. This poem was lovely. It’s Truth, eternity is only in the present moment.

Are we humans having a spritual experience? Are we spirits having a human experience? What a wonderful poem to mark this birthday Laurita! The great mystery of life! Yes..I do think our journey on this earth is a bit of all of these things…the human experience, the spiritual core that society has yet to really grasp and the amazing journey our souls are on to another place. Beautiful entry my friend!

It’s Truth, eternity is only in the present moment. Yes, I agree, I found that meditation is the best why to help us realize that.

let’s hope we are all able to attain THAT goal.

Nice poem, you should write more. Death is our final gift on Earth and one, when our time comes, we will embrace. There will be a temporary sadness in leaving but its length will be as nothing.

My dad’s birthday is also on December 10th. He just turned 68. They didn’t think he’d survive 12 years ago, and he’s come back from all his physical challenges rejoicing in every day and happy to mark each new year in his life. There is indeed a peace in aging. I love your poem! -janeen
