Ray Manzarek

Laura's Blogs Posted on May 21, 2013 by LauraNovember 15, 2013

I’ll really miss Ray Manzarek, a founding member of The Doors whose versatile and often haunting keyboards complimented Jim Morrison’s gloomy vocals, helped set the mood for some of rock’s most enduring songs. I had no idea he had been ill, although the more recent pictures of him did not seem to indicate that he was aging all that well. Manzarek died Monday in Rosenheim, Germany, surrounded by his family. The Doors have sold more than 100 million records and songs such as “Light My … Continue reading →

George Harrison – Love You To

Laura's Blogs Posted on February 7, 2013 by LauraFebruary 16, 2015

“Love You To” is a song by the Beatles from the album Revolver. It is sung and written by George Harrison and features North Indian classical instrumentation; tabla, a pair of hand-drums, sitar and a tambura providing a drone. “Love You To” was the first Beatles’ song that seriously attempted to incorporate Indian classical music and has even been hailed as the first pop song to emulate a non-western form in structure and instrumentation. As such, it first introduced Western pop music fans to the … Continue reading →

The Concert For George Harrison

Laura's Blogs Posted on January 25, 2013 by LauraSeptember 6, 2014

The Concert for George was held at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 29 November 2002 as a memorial to George Harrison on the first anniversary of his death. The event was organized by Harrison’s widow, Olivia, and son, Dhani, and arranged under the musical direction of Eric Clapton and Jeff Lynne. The profits from the event went to the Material World Charitable Foundation, an organization set up by Harrison. The concert opened with a traditional Sanskrit invocation, the Sarvesham chant, followed by Indian music … Continue reading →

It happened on December 10, 1991

Laura's Blogs Posted on December 2, 2012 by LauraDecember 2, 2012

This picture of Justin Hayward was taken out of a program booklet when The Moody Blues did two benefit concerts in New York City in 1991. I’ve been to so many of their concerts in New York City. This concert was at the Paramount Theater and the photo was from the Tour Of The Kingdoms. The big hit at this time was, “Say It With Love.”  It was a benefit concert, and after it had finished, the first ten rows of people (we had what was … Continue reading →

Ray Thomas

Laura's Blogs Posted on December 2, 2012 by LauraDecember 2, 2012

I thought this would be a great song to post for Valentine’s Day. RAY THOMAS of The Moody Blues was born on 29th December 1941 in Stourport on Severn (Stourport-on-Severn, often shortened to Stourport, is a town in north of Worcestershire England). He  attended the Paget Road Secondary Modern School, and later qualified as a toolmaker. In the early ’50s Ray joined the Birmingham Youth Choir and then sang with various groups including The Saints and Sinners and The Ramblers. At that time playing the … Continue reading →

The Moody Blues and Norda Mullen

Laura's Blogs Posted on December 2, 2012 by LauraDecember 2, 2012

I have loved The Moody Blues since I was 14 years old. I went to many shows throughout my life, although I did not see them with Mike Pinder. I got used to him not being there anymore like everyone else, but it was really a blow when Ray Thomas left. I guess it had to happen sooner or later. The Moody Blues must really love to go on tour,  so they got a replacement named Norda Mullen. She’s actually from Mississippi. She fills in all of … Continue reading →
